Sermon Discussion Questions—Luke 13:10-17 (Mercy)

In what ways are we like the woman in the story – mentally, physically, or spiritually? Chris explained how these stories in the Gospel are representational of cosmic realities that are at play. In that sense, what does this broken woman tell us about our world?
In what ways are we like the ruler of the synagogue in the story? Do ‘fear’ and ‘busyness’ resonate with you as reasons so withhold mercy? What other reasons have you found it to be difficult to show mercy to people in need?
Do you feel the sense of wonder at the mercy shown to us? In what ways is Christ’s mercy to us like his mercy to the lady in the synagogue? What does Christ’s mercy give us? How does that help us to show mercy?
