“For thus says the One who is high and lifted up,
who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
‘I dwell in the high and holy place,
and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit,
to revive the spirit of the lowly,
and to revive the heart of the contrite.'”
What good news is contained in this passage of Scripture! God, who is infinitely glorious and powerful and majestic, also makes his home with us. He comes alongside us to strengthen and comfort. The source of every answer is available like a faithful friend.
Our heart disposition needs to be one of humility. God is not required to extend this mercy to us. He is not in debt to us. His offer of his presence is unavoidably all of grace.
So let us come this Sunday aware that the God of the universe is with us to revive our hearts. Let us come with thanksgiving and wonder. Let us come with a contrite and lowly spirit.
