Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
Thousands of years ago, King Jesus entered into Jerusalem to the sound of praises. By the end of the week, those shouts of joy would become shouts of ‘crucify him’ as they condemned the very one from whom they needed rescue.
On this side of the cross, each Sunday we come to rejoice in Christ’s coming. But we do so aware of our propensity to worship a God of our own creation, one who meets our needs and desires, rather than the God who is perfectly wise and infinitely glorious.
Let us come this Sunday in humility, acknowledging our need for the God we worship, and celebrating the provision we have in Jesus.
To help you prepare, here is a Spotify playlist of the songs we’ll be singing.
Carlos Dimas will preach from God’s word as we continue our series in Galatians, and I will lead our times of singing.
