WHAT JORDAN IS READING… Parenting book recommendation! .Parents, are you trying to navigate how to properly use technology in your family and home? I just finished Tech Wise Family: Everyday Steps for Putting Technology in Its Proper Place by Andy Crouch and want to recommend it to you. Crouch uses a large research study by Barna Group to show how radically technology is reshaping the way families live. Based upon this, he gives 10 Tech-wise Commitments that are designed not to remove technology from our homes, but to put it in its proper place. He covers principles like using screens for a purpose and using them together rather than alone, creating more than we consume, valuing presence and even the importance of singing and making music. Tali and I found this to be a very helpful resource as we navigate how to rightly use technology in our home. I encourage you to read it!
UPCOMING AREA EVENTS:
September 22 -23: Seminar on Gender, Sexuality and Fulfillment On Friday and Saturday, September 22-23, The Falls Church will host a seminar called, Being Human: Gender Sexuality and Fulfillment. The seminar will “explore the heart of the gospel in relation to these topics. Speakers John Yates III and Sam Ferguson will consider how the biblical view of our humanity bears upon modern understandings of sexuality and gender, addressing questions such as: How does the biblical story of creation, fall and redemption help us understand our experiences and identity? How does Scripture’s teaching on the creation of humankind inform our understanding of being male or female? How does the Gospel’s vision of human fulfillment square with the Bible’s sexual ethics? How is the Gospel good news, even amidst our sexual brokenness?” You can sign up for the seminar here: https://tfca.wpengine.com/being-human-seminar/
SERVANT SHOUTOUT, by Jackie Black Summer shout out to our Sunday teams: Summer Sundays are like all other Sundays – a little bit of chaos and a lot of serving. Serving requires a degree of science, management, humor, and problem solving which describes Tyler and Aimee Robinson. This power couple of serving are a sanity of serving on Sunday mornings… they quietly save Sundays from ensuring there are communion supplies, to coffee cleanups, to setting up or taking down baptism Sundays. Tyler has been serving as a deacon for seven years and Aimee is similar in her role of jumping into serve upon her arrival at Redeemer. Sundays mornings happen because of the sanity and solutions they bring every Sunday – Thank you, Tyler and Aimee!
