Redeemer Weekly: August 13, 2017 — COMING FALL EVENTS — SERVANT SHOUTOUT: Sunday morning serving teams
Good morning! Please join us this morning for service at 10:30 a.m. at 716 S Glebe. Donuts and fellowship at 10 a.m.
TODAY in Redeemer CM, we continue our final summer unit: Jesus the Healer. Only Jesus had the strength to control a man with the evil spirits. Jesus used His power to free the man (Mark 5:1-20). Psst – Let Jackie know if you did not the instructional emails about electronic check-in!
ARE YOU NEW TO REDEEMER? – TODAY, we will host a newcomer lunch! Immediately after the service, lunch will be at a nearby members’ home to allow newcomers to Redeemer to meet other members, hear our vision from pastors, and get connected. RSVP at the Connection Table!
AUGUST MEMBERS MEETING: As a reminder, our next members meeting is Sunday, August 27 at 5 pm!
REDEEMER SERVING NEED
Redeemer members! Down to the single digits! Thank you to all who have signed up to meet our 72 volunteer need for the 2017-2018 CM year! We are less than a month away from kicking off our new year! You can sign up to serve here – and as always, ask Jackie any questions about children’s ministry!
ESL Program: For the third year, we will offer ESL (English as a second language) for the community! Our hope is to provide high quality English classes and introduce people to Jesus through this ministry. Classes are held on Monday and Thursday nights and we offer an English Bible study on Sunday mornings. There are many opportunities to be involved, from being a teacher to single time commitments for various events. If interested, please contact Lisa Anderson: firstname.lastname@example.org
UPCOMING FALL EVENTS:
We are excited for multiple opportunities of growth and service for the Redeemer community this fall!
Men’s Group: Kicking off in October, Carlos Dimas and Mike Henry desire to develop a “safe and intentional place for men to come together in the spirit of Jesus and learn what a godly man looks like.” The group is in early development and planning, but they are currently “looking for guys who are hungry for more of the Lord to help sustain the kick-off efforts.” Those interested should contact Carlos or Mike.
ReWinD Returns! It’s time for another year of ReWinD – Redeemer Women in Discipleship – where the women of Redeemer connect each Monday evening, 7-9pm, for a time of corporate prayer, worship and digging into God’s Word together. Gay Brown, along with other women in Redeemer, lead this weekly time of discipleship. If you are wanting to connect with like minded believing women, grow exponentially in your prayer life and understanding of God’s Word, this is the place to invest your Monday evenings! Be watching for signup information at the end of the August!
Messy Beautiful Friendships book study: Tali Kauflin will be leading a study that takes a look at a biblical vision for friendship. This study is one that acknowledges the difficulties and past hurts, but also helps us move toward the relationships we desire. This is an opportunity to fellowship with other women as we look at the gift of friendship, using God’s word as our guide. If you are looking for an opportunity to learn and grow with other women in Redeemer, come and join us in this study. The study will begin Friday, September 8 at 7:15pm, gathering at the church, and will continue meeting 1x a month. Email Tali if you’re interested. Order Messy Beautiful Friendship and read the first 2 chapters (or if you can, up to chapter 4), and show up ready to learn, share and grow.
Youth Group Discipleship: This ministry, led by Laura Walton and Megan Hays, desires to grow a youth ministry that reaches every student, grades 6-12, by focusing on relational ministry. We desire that our leaders not only model the values and spiritual disciplines we envision for our kids, but intentionally walk alongside Redeemer’s youth to love, encourage and empower them to integrate life with the gospel. Launching on September 17, our team of leaders will meet with middle school and high school students two Sundays each month to share a meal, play games, go through a Bible study and build relationships with the kids. In the next year, the need is committed prayer partners who will faithfully care for leaders and pray for this mission, and individuals who are willing to give their time and resources to make meals or host meetings. Let Laura Walton of any interest or questions!
Community Group Leader Basic Training: Jon Smith will have another CG Leader Basic Training, starting Tuesday, September 12. The training is from 7 pm – 9 pm, running for four weeks. This time is to develop leaders and their anticipated core group on vision, leadership, and skills for a Redeemer CG. If interested, please let Jon know (and cc Jackie for administrative purposes)!
UPCOMING AREA EVENTS:
September 22 -23: Seminar on Gender, Sexuality and Fulfillment On Friday and Saturday, September 22-23, The Falls Church will host a seminar called, Being Human: Gender Sexuality and Fulfillment. The seminar will “explore the heart of the gospel in relation to these topics. Speakers John Yates III and Sam Ferguson will consider how the biblical view of our humanity bears upon modern understandings of sexuality and gender, addressing questions such as: How does the biblical story of creation, fall and redemption help us understand our experiences and identity? How does Scripture’s teaching on the creation of humankind inform our understanding of being male or female? How does the Gospel’s vision of human fulfillment square with the Bible’s sexual ethics? How is the Gospel good news, even amidst our sexual brokenness?” You can sign up for the seminar here: https://tfca.wpengine.com/being-human-seminar/
