Redeemer Weekly – 8/6/2017

Redeemer Weekly: August 6, 2017 — SERVANT SHOUTOUT: Daniel Mock

Good morning! Please join us this morning for service at 10:30 a.m. at 716 S Glebe. Donuts and fellowship at 10 a.m.

TODAY in Redeemer CM, another busy Sunday of CM training is at 9 am before beginning our final summer unit, Jesus the Healer. This unit teaches about how Jesus healed people from sickness, sin and death. Today’s story is of four friends who help their friend be healed and Christ forgiving his sins (Mark 2:1-12). Psst – reminder that GPTV Explorer is on summer break and returns, Sunday, September 10!

NEXT SUNDAY, August 13th we will host a newcomer lunch! Immediately after the service, lunch will be at a nearby members’ home to allow newcomers to Redeemer to meet other members, hear our vision from pastors, and get connected. RSVP at the Connection Table!

AUGUST MEMBERS MEETING: As a reminder, our next members meeting is Sunday, August 27 at 5 pm!

“In sporting news, the Redeemer Open finished up this week on Arlington’s hard courts. In the semi finals in late July, Jay Roddy beat Darryl Elliott, and Aimee Robinson beat Mike Icardi, leading to a showdown between Robinson and Roddy. In the final match, Aimee cemented her title as Redeemer Open champion, beating Jay in two sets.

Redeemer members! Over the summer we are recruiting for our 2017-2018 CM year! We are less than a month away from kicking off our new year! We still have a need for TEN volunteers! THANK YOU to all who have already signed up – I am grateful for each of you. You can sign up to serve here – and as always, ask Jackie any questions about children’s ministry!

Community Group Leader Basic Training: Jon Smith will have another CG Leader Basic Training, starting Tuesday, September 12th. The training is from 7 pm – 9 pm,  running for four weeks. This time is to develop leaders and their anticipated core group on vision, leadership,  and skills for a Redeemer CG. If interested, please let Jon know (and cc Jackie for administrative purposes ;p)!

September 22 -23: Seminar on Gender, Sexuality and Fulfillment On Friday and Saturday, September 22-23, The Falls Church will host a seminar called, Being Human: Gender Sexuality and Fulfillment. The seminar will “explore the heart of the gospel in relation to these topics. Speakers John Yates III and Sam Ferguson will consider how the biblical view of our humanity bears upon modern understandings of sexuality and gender, addressing questions such as: How does the biblical story of creation, fall and redemption help us understand our experiences and identity? How does Scripture’s teaching on the creation of humankind inform our understanding of being male or female? How does the Gospel’s vision of human fulfillment square with the Bible’s sexual ethics?  How is the Gospel good news, even amidst our sexual brokenness?” You can sign up for the seminar here:

SERVANT SHOUTOUT, by Jackie Black Member nominated: “Dan Mock‘s heart of service is displayed through how he cares for his community group, the church and the outside community.  Burdened to meet tangible needs in the community, he connected with a local food pantry and leads others in his CG to serve there monthly.  He also humbly serves behind the scenes at church by being on the set up/tear down team, which is not necessarily one of the most glamorous duties at Redeemer. He is also always willing to lend a hand and take out trash the weeks he is not covering to assist others and promote efficiency.  Dan, thank you for your heart to serve people like Christ and to spur on others to do the same.”
