Redeemer Weekly 9/24/2017

Redeemer Weekly: September 24, 2017 — SERVANT SHOUTOUT: CM Hall Monitors with Special Addition

Good morning! Please join us this morning for service at 10:30 a.m. at 716 S Glebe. Donuts and fellowship at 10 a.m.

TODAY in Redeemer CM: Redeemer kiddos conclude the unit of Jesus being anointed with learning of his arrest (Matthew 26:36–27:2). Jesus knew that His death was God’s plan to save people from sin. Jesus’ friends turned against Him and He was arrested and put on trial, but Jesus followed His Father’s plan in order to bring salvation to the world.

THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, we will host our third Core Seminar for those interested in pursuing membership! At the Core Seminar, our pastors share about their vision for our church and the core practices we hope to live out. You can register here.

REDEEMER SERVING NEED

Sunday morning rides: Sarah Scott is a dear older lady in our church who has been attending Redeemer for the last couple years. One of the ways that we practically serve her is by providing her rides to and from church each Sunday. This team is in need of more people who would be available to do this. She lives right near GW University off of 23rd st NW, with easy access to I-66. You can sign up for individual Sundays, which enables you to participate as your schedule allows. If you are interested in serving in this way, please sign up here

RETURN OF RCA CHOIR! Our next choral auditions are coming up on Sunday October 1st! If you are interested in helping us prepare for a hymn Sunday on Oct 29, in honor of Reformation Day, please email Kellie Dragity at kellie.mchugh.81@gmail.com and she will direct you to our audition sign up sheet. If you have auditioned for us before, there is no need to audition again! You will be receiving an email invite shortly. Thank you all for considering!

FALL EVENTS:

We are excited for multiple opportunities of growth and service for the Redeemer community this fall!

For Redeemer members and attenders

Starting Sunday, October 13, Jon Smith will be leading a class on reading and study God’s Story of scripture. Jon writes, “This course is deeply practical. We will work through multiple exercises on Bible texts. We will learn to understand texts in the context of the bigger story and the immediate context of the book of the Bible they appear in. Then we will learn how to apply the words of the Bible practically in our lives today.” Dates and RSVP are here

For Men

Men’s Group: Men, we are excited about providing this opportunity for men to gather together starting on Sunday 10/15th at 9am (location TBD). We will do a video series plus small group discussion called Stepping Up by Dennis Rainey (founder of Family Life). The following is a brief description of the series. Can’t wait to connect with each one of you, more details to follow but mark your calendar for 8 weeks after October 15th: “Dig deeper into what it means to step up and live a courageous life with Stepping Up: A Call to Courageous Living Video Series. Based on his book by the same title, Dennis Rainey, along with Matt Chandler, Bill Bennett, Tony Dungy, Robert Lewis, Voddie Baucham, Stu Weber, and others unpack what biblical manhood looks like and what it means to be a godly, courageous man in today’s world. Through engaging stories, expert teaching, humorous vignettes, man-on-the-street interviews, and personal insights, these men’s ministry leaders call every man to become courageous leaders in their own lives, marriages, churches, and communities. Accompanied by small-group discussion and individual follow-up exercises, men of every age will learn action tools for gospel-centered living to empower them to be true heroes in their families and communities” Men interested should contact Carlos or Mike.

SERVANT SHOUTOUT, by Jackie Black: With the launch of electronic check-in (#allthepraisehands), our already hero hall monitors have upped their game with helping families acclimate to the new system. It has been such a joy (and relief) to see them engaged and owning the process – while never faltering in their regular, safety monitoring of our children’s ministry.

Heroes include: Matt Kessler (whose insights helped ensure success of our hard launch), Mark Teubl (who handled his new hall monitor role and the first Sunday of electronic check-in like a pro), Will Wiley and Nate Milhouse (who you could not cause to panic even when the wireless went down!), and Richard Rabil (whose first Sunday is today!). You gents are amazing and gift of patience and adaptability. THANK YOU for caring for our kiddos in this new system.

Special Shoutout: Missing from last week’s Redeemer Weekly was a SHOUTOUT for clean up, painting, fix-it, gardening, all around amazing, sacrifice a Saturday heroes! Kody Kight fearlessly organized and led a group of over 15 adults (and cutest helper, Laura Seck):  Lisa Anderson, Alan Arnold, Andrew & Becky Davis, Lisa Gibbs, Madyson Hutchinson, Stef Kight, Daniel Mock, Caleb Jones, David & Sarah Mugg, Viktor Orekhov, Braden & Kellie Pierson, Justin Posey, Shawna & Caleb Quezada, Ben Seck, Bryson & Megan Riley – THANK YOU!
