Redeemer Weekly: August 12, 2018 — Servant Shoutout: deacon appreciation – Jen Whetsell
Good morning! Please join us tomorrow morning at 10am for coffee and donuts at 716 S. Glebe Rd.
Tomorrow in Children’s Ministry (CM): For August, Redeemer kiddos will be learning about the book of Revelation before we go back to the beginning in Genesis on September 2! Note: The lessons will be strictly related to the book of Revelation with no endtime views or interpretations.
CM Training Reminder: The 2018-2019 mandatory training will be held tomorrow at 9am. If you are serving in CM this upcoming service year, you can either attend training on any of Sunday in August: tomorrow, August 19, and August 26; or on Thursday, August 16.
Tomorrow in the Men’s Group: The men will meet at Carlos Dimas’ home at 8:45am. For further details, please contact Mike Henry.
Deacon News: Jen Whetsell is stepping down from her role as a deacon of New Person Integration. Please see the Servant Shoutout section below for more info.
Member Meeting Date CHANGE: Due to summer schedule changes and conflicts, the August 26th member meeting has been moved to Sunday, September 30
Redeemer Member Led Event
Tennis Tournament! Graym Kasko is organizing this year’s Redeemer Open, which will take place in September. ALL LEVELS ARE WELCOME TO PLAY. If you are interested in playing (or learning more), email Graym or reply to the post on the Redeemer’s Facebook page.
Redeemer Service Area Needs:
Audio Team: We still need technically- and musically-minded and music folks to help out with the Audio and Recording teams. Previous experience is helpful, but not required. If you’re interested in learning more, please email Dave Mugg.
Children Ministry: The largest service team for Redeemer’s largest service area is still looking for members to serve for our 2018-2019 year (September through August)! We are excited to start in Genesis and looking for classroom volunteers (no experience required and teacher roles are filled!). If you love kiddos, like them, or are scared of them (and no longer want to be), then this your opportunity to serve! Let Jackie know if ready for the adventure!
Open and Close Team: Ever wonder when signs are put up and taken down? Curious who takes out the ravaged donut boxes? We’re looking for 1 or 2 volunteers to join our team of faithful servants who arrive early (10am) to set up our space to ensure it is ready and welcoming. Please email Ben Seck if you’re interested!
Servant Shoutout by Jackie Black: A recent staff meeting had me laughing and reminding the guys – I am used to working with all guys and being the only girl 😉 – which is what makes my fellow women deacons (chin nod, Betsy and Britt!) all the sweeter to me! With great and deep appreciation from all of Redeemer, Jen Whetsell will be stepping back from her role as a deacon of New Person Integration (for those with some panic – she is not moving!).
Jen was part of the first renewed wave of deacons at Redeemer back in 2016 and she came in with energy, ideas, and execution. Even her exit shows these marks of serving as she has set up systems and teams to replace her – and yes, those are plural. She saw needs, and ran to met them. She endured, graced, and grew the way staff, leadership, and volunteers thought about how to welcome visitors at Redeemer. We are so grateful for her – thank you, Jen! I will miss seeing your face at meetings but thankful you will continue to bless and grow Redeemer in other ways outside of the role you help identify and define.
