New Book Study: “Bloodlines”

Dan Rogers and Tim Wilson will be starting a study group Sunday, November 13th. They’ve provided details and the description below.

Given the diversity of Arlington, it is important to consider a Biblical view of race and how that should inform our relationships. John Piper, in his new book, Bloodlines: Race, Cross, and the Christian contributes to the discussion of race like few others–with insight and a hard gaze at the cross.

When: Starts Sunday, Nov 13, 2011 and will meet every other week at 9am.
Where: Rogers Home
Contact Dan Rogers if you have further questions.

Members Meeting in Two Weeks

Note that the members meeting is for those who are currently members and those who are in the membership process (ie. received the survey). The members meeting will end around 6:30pm.

Give Used or New Blankets

Blanket Drop

Used and cleaned or new blankets are accepted

This Sunday, you can still bring blankets to donate for the Thanksgiving Blanket Drop organized by members of Redeemer.

If you or your community group would like to participate by donating a a new or lightly-used/clean blanket/s, we will have a collection box in the lobby at church this Sunday beginning at 4pm.

Blanket Drop Project Overview

The Objective
Collect 50+ new / clean lightly-used blankets (with pocket version of Gospel of John) and distribute to Arlington + DC homeless during Thanksgiving week.

The Plan
Collection Period: Sunday (10/30) through Sunday (11/20)
Preparation: Folding / Tying Blankets – Monday (11/21)
Blanket Drop Day: Tuesday (11/22) at 7:30pm

Two vans will leave the Central United Methodist parking lot at 7:30pm and we will target areas in both Arlington and downtown DC where there may be homeless in need of warm blankets*—we will hand them a blanket and a pocket “Gospel of John.”

How You Can Help

  1. Donate a new or lightly-used (and clean) blanket to be donated to a homeless person in need—you can donate a blanket(s)as a family, a single, a group of friends, etc.
  2. Help get the word out. Talk to your neighbors, coworkers and friends about Redeemer’s effort to fulfill both physical and spiritual needs in our community.
  3. Pray for the homeless population in our area. And that God can use our church and our desires to serve to bring people of all types closer to Him.
  4. Help prepare blankets and ‘pocket Gospels’ on Monday (11/21) at Central United Methodist.
  5. Donate your van (mini-van preferred) for the blanket drop day—we are in need of (2)—one for Arlington / the other for DC.
  6. Participate on a blanket drop team / ride—we are looking for 4-6 people on each team to help distribute.

*Areas / route for blanket drop is TBD.
