This Sunday

This Sunday – June 18th, 2017

For thus says the One who is high and lifted up,
who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
“I dwell in the high and holy place,
and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit,
to revive the spirit of the lowly,
and to revive the heart of the contrite.
Isaiah 57:15

This is good news. The God who dwells in unapproachable light makes his home in those who acknowledge their need of him. If you are needy, you are a candidate!

Let us come, humbled by our weakness, yet confident that God can and will revive our hearts.

Dale will continue our preaching series entitled, “Who is This?” and I will lead our times of singing.

PS. 146:1-2

Join us this Sunday as we gather to sing, study God’s word, and take communion together.

As you come, whether you are discouraged or full of faith, remember that Jesus’ blood never fails. He is always merciful, always good, and always sufficient for every need. It is not our work or effort that gives us access to God’s presence and glory. It is all because of Jesus.

Caleb will lead our times of singing and I have the privilege of continuing our series in the book of Luke as we walk through the story of Mary and Martha.

See you there!

This Sunday – June 4th, 2017

“The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, 7 keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.” Ex. 34:6-7

As we gather each Sunday, our heart’s cry is to see God for who he is. Like Moses, we desire to experience God and to know him better. For as we see him, we are changed.

This Sunday God speaks to us through his word, declaring that He is merciful and gracious. He is just and holy. He is our covenant keeping, forgiving God. For the Israelites, these words were both a comfort and a gracious warning. In light of their continued disobedience, God’s communication of his steadfast love and grace was incredible assurance that they were his people. And as his people, they were called to honor and obey him. An attitude of indifference towards the Lord’s ways is met with a warning that he is just.

I encourage you to prepare for our meeting together by meditating on the Scripture above. Ask God that he would reveal to you where there is an attitude of indifference to his gracious commands. Pray that he would overwhelm you with the beauty and depth of his love and forgiveness.

We have the privilege of having Josh Harris preach God’s word to us, and I will lead our times of singing.

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Phil. 4:4-7

This Sunday, God invites us to rejoice in his provision as we bring our worries and fears to him. We gather to hear from our Maker and rest in his power and strength, not our own.

What anxieties are you bringing? What situations in your life are keeping you up at night? God wants to remind you that he will guard you, protect you, and give you peace.

Let us come ready to hear from the Lord as we gratefully respond to his words of life.

and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy.”
Psalm 103:1-4

This Sunday we have the privilege to respond to God’s call for us to come and worship him. This is a gracious call. He invites us to consider his mercy and kindness. He invites us rehearse his benefits. He invites us to know him better.

This is a privilege only made possible because of the righteousness of Jesus. We come not in our strength or obedience but confident in his.

As we prepare to gather, I encourage you to spend a couple minutes thanking God for the incredible privilege of knowing and experiencing him. Let your heart be warmed by remembering that God wants to meet you and help you. Then come ready to worship and respond.

For great is his steadfast love toward us,
and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.
Praise the Lord!”
Psalm 117

Why are you coming to church this Sunday? Habit? Guilt? A feeling of necessity?

God’s word tells us that we gather to the praise the Lord because his steadfast love and faithfulness are amazing. His love for us is great, and his faithfulness endures forever. We gather because the object of our attention and praise is a God who is better than we think he is and more powerful than we can imagine!

This Sunday we have the privilege of singing, studying God’s word, and taking communion together. We also have the joy of participating in the baptism of someone in our church.

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.”
1 John 3:1

Join us this Sunday as we consider the kind of love that the Father has given to us! Later on in the book of 1 John, it says that ‘perfect love casts out fear.’ This is the power and effect of God’s love towards us. It drives out fear of his punishment, fear of rejection, and fear of the future.

God has made us his sons and daughters in order that we may know and rest in his love and grace. This is good news!

This Sunday we have the joy of welcoming 15 new members to Redeemer. We will also hear a powerful testimony of God’s grace in one of their lives.

Eric will finish our series in the book of Galatians and I will lead our times of singing.

This Sunday – April 16th, 2017

We invite you to join us tonight at our Good Friday service, 7-8pm, as we take time to consider the death of Jesus on our behalf.

On Sunday, we will celebrate the greatest victory the world has even known.

The grave is empty, Jesus has risen, and death has been defeated!

Friends, because of the death and resurrection of Jesus, your life always contains hope. Your story is part of the greater story of God’s love in rescuing and redeeming us so we may know his grace and live as he created us.

Let’s consider who we might invite so they can hear this good news!

I look forward to rejoicing with you all.

    This Sunday – April 9th, 2017

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
    Behold, your king is coming to you;
righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
    Zechariah 9:9

Thousands of years ago, King Jesus entered into Jerusalem to the sound of praises. By the end of the week, those shouts of joy would become shouts of ‘crucify him’ as they condemned the very one from whom they needed rescue.

On this side of the cross, each Sunday we come to rejoice in Christ’s coming. But we do so aware of our propensity to worship a God of our own creation, one who meets our needs and desires, rather than the God who is perfectly wise and infinitely glorious.

Let us come this Sunday in humility, acknowledging our need for the God we worship, and celebrating the provision we have in Jesus.

To help you prepare, here is a Spotify playlist of the songs we’ll be singing.

Carlos Dimas will preach from God’s word as we continue our series in Galatians, and I will lead our times of singing.

Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works!
Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!
Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭105:1-4

This Sunday we gather to sing, study God’s word, and take communion together.

God invites you and I to behold his greatness and goodness so that we may be strengthened in our faith and encouraged to follow him.
