This Sunday

This Sunday – Nov. 6th, 2016

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
For the Lord is a great God,
and a great King above all gods. Psalm 95:1-3

This Sunday, we have the privilege to gather together to behold our wondrous God and worship him.

Our gathering is in response to his gracious initiative, calling us to sing together, study his Word, and take communion. And his promise is to bless us as we do these things.

Caleb will lead our times of singing and I will preach from Luke 18:9-14 as we continue to look at the topic of repentance, building off of last weeks message. This week we will look at “Building a community of repentant sexual sinners.”

Because he lives, we can face tomorrow. Because he lives, we can live in freedom. Because he lives, we can have hope in our suffering. Because he lives, everything about our lives is covered by a greater redemptive story that he is perfectly writing.

Come to strengthen your faith in Jesus, and consider how he has called us to live.

I will lead our times of singing and Moses Lee, leader at ONEU DC and member of our church will preach from 1 Samuel 12:1-25 on “A Lifestyle of Repentance.”

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Heb. 4:16

This Sunday we gather to respond to God’s call to worship him. We do this because we believe that our greatest need and joy is to behold our God and Savior. In this beholding, we actually “are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another.” (2 Cor. 3:18) As we see God for who he is and experience his greatness, glory, and love, we actually become more like him! This is grace. For our transformation begins (and ends) with God, not ourselves. It happens as we look to him, not to our own strength and ability.

So whether your faith is weak or strong, whether you want to come or not, whether you feel ready or not, come believing that you may draw near to the throne of grace through the blood of Jesus, for it is there (and only there) where we can “receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

“And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.” Col. 2:13-14

Where do you go for comfort? Hope? Joy?

Join us this Sunday as we find comfort, hope, and joy in remembering who God is and all he has accomplished in forgiving us of all our sins.

Our grateful response to the good news that God loves and accepts us is surrender. Eric will again preach from the book of Acts as we look at God’s power in this world, and how he has called us to live for him.

I look forward to recounting God’s grace together, and considering the thrilling call he has given us to love and serve him.

Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.
The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
the God of glory thunders,
the Lord, over many waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful;
the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

Psalm 29:1-4

This Sunday we gather together to respond to God’s call to worship him.

He calls us to remember and reflect on his greatness and glory. He call us to rejoice in his mercy and grace. And he calls us to consider how we can offer our lives as ‘pleasing sacrifices’ to him.

Join us as sing, study God’s word, and take communion together. God invites you to experience and know him more!

This Sunday – Sept. 18th, 2016

Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the mountains of God;
your judgments are like the great deep;
man and beast you save, O Lord.
How precious is your steadfast love, O God!
The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your house,
and you give them drink from the river of your delights.
For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light do we see light.
Oh, continue your steadfast love to those who know you,
and your righteousness to the upright of heart!
Let not the foot of arrogance come upon me,
nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.
Psalm 36:5-11

We have all experienced situations where we face limitation. Limitations of time, money, strength, brainpower, willpower, the list goes on.

Many times it is our own limitation. Other times it is due to limitations outside of us. People can’t provide the support you need. Your boss is unable to help you due to politics in the office. Your children reach the end of their ability to control themselves. Can you relate?

God’s word tells us that when we consider God, limitations are never to be considered. His love reaches to the heavens, his faithfulness to the clouds. His righteousness is like the mountains and his judgements as deep as the ocean. In other words, God is not bound by the limitations that we daily face in this life.

This Sunday we respond to his call to consider who he is and all he has done. Our songs will center on his never ending love and power towards his children. Eric will preach from Acts 11-12, which testifies to God’s unstoppable plan to spread his gospel to the world. And at communion, we will remember that God’s promise of salvation is still true!

Come to remember and celebrate that God is not defined by limitations. He is always better, bigger, and more true than we can imagine!

Jon Smith will preach from Acts 10 and I will lead our times of singing.

As you prepare to come, please pray that God would ‘enlighten the eyes of our hearts’ (Eph. 1:18) so we may truly know and understand his great power and grace.

“Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.” Psalm 145:3-4

From generation to generation, we are to commend all that God has done. It’s our privilege and our responsibility.

This Sunday will be a bit different than other Sundays.

Typically, the kids in our church spent most if not all of their time downstairs in our Children’s Ministry, learning about Jesus from the incredible servants in our church that faithfully serve them.

This Sunday, we are going to bring them upstairs! The cast and crew that normally provide a skit for the kids to introduce new sections in their curriculum are going to do their skit and lesson in our main service with the kids present. After that I am going to give a shortened message on the importance of passing on the gospel to the next generation.

We want to highlight the work that is being done in Children’s Ministry, and invite us to collectively learn about and worship God, who is greatly to be praised.

See you there!
